Indian Point / Mahone Bay Mussel Festival

Get ready for a great week-end of mussel tasting, wine sipping and all things mussels.

The fourth annual Indian Point/Mahone Bay Mussel Festival will take place May 21, 22t & 23rd in Mahone Bay and at the Indian Point Mussel Farm in Indian Point.

Friday – May 21, 2010

2:00pm - L’eclade- Back by popular demand -The Biscuit Eater will be demonstrating one of our favorite recipes from 1606 - l’eclade (a mussel recipe used by Champlain for the Order of Good Cheer, which involves burying mussels under heaps of dry pine needles & setting the whole thing aflame.)
Dramatic, tasty, a little dirty…appeals to the pyromaniac in all of us – I have no idea why this isn’t a more common back yard eating tradition! Drop by & check it out.

Events in Indian Point

Mussel Tours - From the ocean to the plate, learn about mussels and our new live sea scallops.  Free of Charge.

Join us at the Indian Point Fire Hall, all day on May 22 and 23rd.  Meet local artists, boat builders, model builders and groups like Slow Food Nova Scotia, the Ecology Action Centre, Nova Scotia Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture with their touch tank, Sail Mahone Bay, Mahone Islands Conservation Association, Taste of Nova Scotia and others.  There will be mussel farm tours at 11:00 and 2:00 on Saturday and Sunday and lots of mussel and other shellfish sampling.  Please bring your favourite mussel recipe and any special ingredients you might need.  We will provide the mussels for you to cook. Add your recipe to the Mussel Festival Recipe Collection. Lunenburg County Winery will be providing samples of their great wines on Saturday.  See you in Indian Point.
