Why are the three churches all together on the waterfront?
The town Mahone Bay was and still is a central meeting place for smaller communities in the area. The reason why these three churches are so close together on the waterfront has never really been determined. The oldest church dates to 1887. Its been said that sailors knew they were in a safe place when they set sight upon them. In fact there are a total of five churches in the town of Mahone Bay.
Where did Mahone Bay get its name?
It comes from “mahonne” a type of 16 th century nautical vessel that employed both a sailing rig and oars for propulsion.
What does the town’s motto “Unio Silvae Marisque” mean?
It means a union of forest and sea.

Where can I see Puffins?
The Atlantic Puffin nests on Pearl Island in Mahone Bay from mid-June to mid-August.
Where is the nearest lighthouse?
The lighthouse is located on Westhaver Island across from Westhaver beach. 5 minutes south from Mahone Bay on Route 3. Turn left at Mader's Cove Road, drive 1.5 km
What is there for children to do?
In addition to activities listed in our Outdoor Adventures section, our town offers a variety of recreation programs and facilities on a pay for use basis. This includes a swimming pool, baseball field, soccer field, tennis court and a “tiny tots” playground.
