The Three Churches of Mahone Bay reflected in the harbour at golden hour
Welcome to —

Mahone Bay

Three churches. Three hundred and sixty-five islands. One unforgettable small town on Nova Scotia's South Shore.

About the town

A real place. A real welcome.

We're a small town of about a thousand people on the South Shore of Nova Scotia, an hour southwest of Halifax. We have a harbour full of sailboats, a Main Street full of artisans and cafés, and a year-round calendar full of festivals that started because someone thought it would be a good idea.

We're proud to call ourselves the Best Small Town in Canada — come spend a day or a week and see why.

Stop in

The Visitor Information Centre

One of the last staffed VICs in Nova Scotia — and the friendliest first stop in Mahone Bay.

Most provinces have quietly let their Visitor Centres close. We've kept ours open because actual locals at an actual desk plan a better day than any app. The people behind the counter live here year-round; they'll point you to the best sunset, the freshest scones, and the trail you weren't going to find on Google.

  • Maps, walking-tour brochures & regional guides
  • Clean public washrooms
  • Free Wi-Fi & device charging
  • Local products & Mahone Bay merch

Why we say it

The Best Small Town
in Canada

A name we earned the slow way — through good neighbours, good fish, and a Main Street that's still made of the same people who live on it.

Read our story
  • 1754 The year settlers arrived, drawn by the same sheltered harbour that draws boaters today.
  • 365 The loose count of islands Mahone Bay locals have always claimed.
  • 3 Churches on a single curve of shoreline — Nova Scotia's most-photographed view.
