Come visit Mahone Bay during the Great Scarecrow Festival & Antique Fair, a town filled with hundreds of scarecrows to delight all! Here is the schedule of events for 2011.
Magical Pumpkin Path
Jo-Ann and Linda will light up the night again this year with over 150 beautifully carved jack-o-lanterns, everything from famous sailing ships to the Picasso Gallery and all carved freehand without patterns! Enjoy the fiddle music of Eilidh Buchanan as you stroll along the Path. Sip a cup of hot mulled cider, on sale near the United Church parking lot at the beginning of the Path. That’s from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday nights. All carved pumpkins will be for sale on site at 8:30 Saturday night and at Jo-Ann’s Market on Sunday with proceeds going to the festival.

The Great Scarecrow Challenge
We all know there is a lot of creative talent, (some of it hidden!) in this town and we urge residents and business alike to dig out some old cloths or make a trip to PJs or Frenchy’s and create a scarecrow for your front lawn or storefront. This year you can win BIG, two grand prizes of $500 each for best residential and business scarecrow! Anything goes, so C’mon folks!
The more the merrier! This contest is open to all residents of Mahone Bay and all members of the Chamber of Commerce except members of the creative management committee of the festival. Mayor Joe Feeney will judge!

Antique Fair
Three halls again this year will be brimming with antiques from the most respected dealers from Nova Scotia and beyond. Just $2 per person gets you into all three halls.Venues: Anglican Church Hall, Legion Hall, and the Mahone Bay Centre Friday, Sept 30, 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.; Saturday, Oct. 1, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; Sunday, Oct. 2, 11:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Interested in Quilts?
Enjoy the music and fun at Suttles and Seawinds Quilt Jamboree. Learn how to quilt from the Mahone Bay Quilters’ Guild. Stitch a spell….will your stitches be toenail catchers? Saturday & Sunday, 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.

Kick up your Heels!!!
Back by popular demand again this year, the Centennial Dixieland Jazz Band will add some zip to your afternoon. They perform under the apple tree between Jo-Ann’s Market and the Old Station Saturday afternoon from 2: 00 p. m. to 5:00 p.m., weather permitting.
Music in Oakland
Cecilia’s Retreat, 1199 Oakland Road celebrates the Scarecrow Festival with a Saturday Brunch at 11:00 a.m. Enjoy an hour of wonderful music by Two Oceans Trio followed by some tasty food overlooking the waters of Mahone Bay. Reservations at 624-0506 or barbara.butler@eastlink.ca
Stuff for Kids
There will be lots of great games and fun activities with something for every age and interest! Saturday and Sunday, 12 noon to 4:00 p.m. at the Bandstand, weather permitting.
Granny’s Attic Yard Sale
Collectibles and nice old things. In support of the Mahone Bay Settlers Museum. Outside the Eclectic Garage, 363 West Main Street, starting at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
Scarecruise Antique Car Show
Watch for these classic beauties as they cruise into town, then drop down to the Government Wharf to admire them at your leisure. Don’t forget to vote for the People’s Choice Award! Sunday, Oct. 2, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Historic Graveyard Tours
Tour historic Bayview Cemetery with local know-it-all Bob Sayer. Learn about the history of Mahone Bay through the pioneering loves of our settlers and discover your “founding family” ancestor amongst the Hysons, Ernsts and Slaunwhites. Tour lasts about 40 minutes and cost $3 per person. Meet at the Visitor's Information Centre. Friday 6:00 p.m., Saturday & Sunday, 2:00 p.m. & 4:00 p.m.
