US dollars are accepted in much of Nova Scotia, however to get the most favourable exchange rate you should change your money at a bank or use your credit card. The units of currency in Canada are the Canadian dollar and the cent, in almost the same denominations as US currency. The $1 and $2 bill are no longer used and have been replaced by $1 and $2 coins. (Commonly referred to as the “loonie” and the “toonie”).
